Tokyo, Japan, April 6, 2009 - Appliya Inc. is proud to announce two new applications that allow everyone to experience the full beauty of historic Japanese art. These applications bring you the long heritage of the traditional Ukiyo-e art form using the iPhone and iPod Touch.
Ukiyo-e Beauties features art taken directly from The Chiba City Museum of Art, which hosts one of the world's most famous Ukiyo-e collections. Images of these rare and valuable pieces of art are not available online and, unlike most digital presentations of Ukiyo-e works, our app features artwork that accounts for the fading effects of time, and we present these pieces with accurate colors that have been restored to their original clarity. This is the first real eBook for Ukiyo-e with such attention paid to original colors.
The world's leading authority on Ukiyo-e prints, Professor Tadashi Kobayashi, supervised the color restoration process and creation of the Japanese text descriptions of the art pieces. Professor Robert Campbell of Tokyo University, another top researcher in Ukiyo-e, guided the creation of accurate English text that provides detailed discourse on the history and influence of the artwork. Beginners and Ukiyo-e experts alike can enjoy our presentation of this unique art form. This is truly the best way to view the highest quality classic Japanese art!

About Curators
Tadashi Kobayashi
Professor at Gakush?in University and Director of Chiba City Museum of Art, and Chair of International Ukiyo-e Conference.
A world authority on Japanese art history, Professor Kobayashi is also at the center of international ukiyo-e studies. He has discovered and researched countless ukiyo-e prints at museums around the world. He is among the first academicians to treat ukiyo-e not just as craftsman work but as fine art, and has gained esteem for treating shunga (seductive ukiyo-e), for the first time, as an academic discipline. His efforts at discussing art in plain language have been highly acclaimed.
Robert Campbell
Professor at the University of Tokyo, Graduate School of Fine Arts (Japanese Literature, The Department of Comparative Literature).
Professor Campbell is one of the forerunners in research on the relationship between Edo (Early Modern) and modern literature. He has produced many great contributions to these fields while being one of the very few foreign faculty members teaching Japanese literature, in Japanese, at the prestigious national academic institutions. His interests lie in poetry, prose and in the art, philosophy, and media which are associated with poetry during the mid-Edo to Meiji periods of Japan. He has approached head-on a wide variety of issues concerning painting, literature, political science and print media in an interdisciplinary method, conveying the fascination of Japanese literature and fine arts through a wide range of media such as print, television, radio and public lectures.
